The Law Offices of Paul H. Merry

About the Firm

Since 1990 the Law Offices of Paul H. Merry, Esq., have represented individual employees with relation to their employment, ranging from custodial workers to top level chief executive officers to accomplished professionals in medicine, education, finance, the law and other fields. New legislation increasing employee rights has been passed almost annually since the Civil Rights Act of 1991. Using legal remedies arising from contract and tort law, to anti-discrimination and other statutes, to constitutional rights, the office has secured significant financial and legal relief, ranging up to values of seven figures. Significant victories have been won in race and disability discrimination cases as well as in sex and sexual orientation discrimination situations. In the majority of cases the office has been able to achieve substantial results without litigation, however, using mediation or direct inter-party negotiation to produce satisfactory outcomes for its clients more quickly than through formal legal process. Many clients are employed by public schools or other governmental entities.

The firm offers individualized attention to each case, and encourages direct involvement by clients in the planning and prosecution of any legal process. Matters have been pursued through all state and federal courts, as well as a range of administrative agencies at all levels, including within federal government departments.

The office has also used innovative approaches to resolve workplace problems, including negotiating terms for workplace practices and conduct that address and resolve the root causes of employment issues without the expense and delay frequently encountered in formal process. The focus has been on careful analysis of the core issue presented, and an open-minded approach to choosing the response most likely to yield the most beneficial result for the client in the least amount of time and least amount of expense.

In addition to victories at trial, the office has had success on numerous occasions on appeals to the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals and the Massachusetts Appeals Court, where claims filed have resulted in clarifications of discrimination law prohibiting sex harassment.

The Law Offices of Paul H. Merry cover all aspects of employment law and offers representation in negotiation, mediation, and litigation through appeal in all federal and state courts and agencies. The office concentrates on race, age, disability, sex, religion, and national origin discrimination claims. Representation is also offered in wrongful termination suits, sexual harassment, employment torts, contracts, covenants not to compete and separation agreements.

More than forty years’ experience practicing law, thirty concentrating on employment and civil rights law, including race, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, and national origin discrimination.
